Cake rising... HELP!
Whenever I bake a cake, no matter what type, it rises higher in the middle and I never get a flat cake even if I follow the recipe correctly?!
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

Just use a bread knife or
Just use a bread knife or cheese wire to cut the hump off then turn it upside down and cover with icing.
Thats a great idea, thanks

The bump in the middle is
The bump in the middle is caused by the cake tin heating up faster than the rest of the oven and the cake batter near the edges cooks faster than that in the middle. One solution that helps a bit is to lower the temperature slightly from what the recipe directions says. Obviously you'll have to bake the cake for more time and just check it for readiness. I have also heard of cooling strips designed to go around the cake pan which you can find in kitchen supply or craft stores that stock cake decorating supplies. Hope this helps :)
Wrapping a wet towel around
Wrapping a wet towel around the cake tin while baking sometimes helps. I don't like cutting the bump off because it leaves a lot of crumbs that make icing it difficult.
I always turn my cakes upside
I always turn my cakes upside down, the results are a perfectly flat cake that looks so professional especially if you want to decorate for a kids birthday cake.
if it rises in the middle
if it rises in the middle turn the oven down and if it sinks turn the over up :)
