Anzac biscuits

Anzac biscuits

Popular in Australia and New Zealand, typically made using rolled oats, flour, coconut, sugar, butter, golden syrup, bicarbonate of soda and water. Associated with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) established in World War I.

Recipe ingredients

1 cup Flour
1 cup Rolled oats
1 cup Brown sugar
½ cup Coconut
125g Butter
2 tbsp Golden syrup
1 tbsp Water
½ tsp Bicarbonate of soda

Cooking Steps

  • Melt the butter in a saucepan then add the water and golden syrup. Also stir the bicarbonate of soda into this mixture.

  • Place sugar, coconut and rolled oats into a mixing bowl and sift in the flour. Lightly mix then add your liquid/butter mixture to the bowl and mix well.

  • Place small lumps of mixture on a baking tray (greased or baking paper) and bake at 175 °C for about 20 minutes.

  • Notes:
Biscuits will harden as they cool.
Use more golden syrup to make crunchier biscuits.
